Apple Face Time Coming To Laptops Soon?

If Rumours Are True Mobile WiFi Could Explode

T-Mobile Broadband Pay As You Go DongleRumours are flying around the Internet today that Apple's increasingly popular video calling service which launched with the iPhone 4 and is soon to be added to iPads and iPod Touchs may also be coming to laptops in the near future. A french website, Mac4Ever, was first with the claim, which has been picked up by other reputable news services, that Face Time is due to be announced soon as an addition to Apple's instant messenger service iChat. iChat is already popular with Apple users but the second part of the rumour, that it may also be made available on Windows based PCs is the biggest news as this could explode the audience for Face Time and make it a genuine competitor for video VOIP services like Skype. Face Time cannot be used naturally over the mobile phone networks as it depends on a WiFi signal but many users have been getting around this by using a mobile wifi service like Three's MiFi.

Essentially the mobile wifi device picks up a mobile broadband signal and creates a wifi hotspot that Face Time sees as wifi Internet access rather than mobile phone data and it is possible to make Face Time calls using your mobile broadband allowance when not in range of a fixed wifi hotspot. Face Time on laptops could really be the killer app for mobile wifi that sees the service explode as millions of potential users would be able to use the service in the park, on the beach or even when travelling.
